Wind and Energy Assessments

A Wind and Energy Assessment at site is very involved and requires the person performing the assessment to be trained, competent, and qualified to perform the assessment. The assessor must have some basic knowledge of the site prior to showing up so that the proper equipment and expertise is taken to the site. RSI is a “Green Company”, with LEED certified staff members. RSI has been performing Environmental studies for over a decade.

RSI has performed thousands of assessments at various types of sites for independent verification. RSI started out as a University based service organization. Our reports have been reviewed by and are on record with government agencies. The report is a general assessment of the site (in some cases as required by the agencies for compliance or used in grant and loan approval), and is not intended to be an engineering document. An engineering report would not reflect the various environmental and safety issues that are encountered at many sites. RSI uses competent and qualified professionals to review and develop programs. All of RSI Assessments and report documents exhibit this expertise. The methods and procedures RSI uses will meet all the criteria required for the project as well as others that individual clients may have.

Go Green Friendly:
Harnessing clean renewable energy not only reduces your operating costs, but is an act of good environmental stewardship. There are a growing number of consumers who make their buying decisions based on the perceived environmental responsibility of the vendor. Generating electricity from wind energy means less consumption of fossil fuels, reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emission.
It also provides reliable backup power while transitioning to a Green-Friendly facility

Our services and line of renewable energy products can reduce or eliminate your outside energy needs, replacing them with the clean abundant power provided by nature. By making RE a part your lifestyle, you can help reduce our nation's dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil while helping to control greenhouse gasses. And your Green-Friendly RE system will also provide you with an ongoing hedge against the rising cost of energy, and increase the value of your home or business.

Wind Site Assessment Survey

If you need to measure wind speed and wind direction to help determine whether your site is a good candidate to harvest wind power, or for any other reason, then RSI can provide a wind analysis.  The assessment consists of unattended data collection using a calibrated anemometer on towers.

  • In every wind application a wind assessment survey should be part of the project.  You can also purchase just a site assessment without any other obligation to a future purchase.
  • The RSI Site Assessor determines the most ideal position for the tower, based on the topography of your site.
  • As part a wind survey RSI will provide an approximate payback spreadsheet for your records, which can be used with your bank or finance company.  If needed, the information we provide you give you a predicted, Return on Investment (ROI).
  • The other type of site assessment is the per-build you have order the WindGen
  • RSI performed it first wind studies back in the late1990’s.

Site Assessment pricing structure:

  1. Your site assessment fee is based on a flat rate and the size of the turbine that is being proposed.   Our flat fee is $1,500.00 plus $100.00 per kilowatt proposed.
  2. Any changes to the turbine size, once filings have been 50% completed, will result in additional charges
  3. All site assessments are non-binding on either party to complete the final phase of any project.  Site assessments fees are non-refundable if the project is halted for any reason, whether by you as the customer, local rules, ordinances, or governing bodies; or if we discover that the project would put humans, animals, or property at risk.  In addition, your site assessment fee cannot be used as part of the down payment of your project, should your project fail move ahead within 12 months after the original site assessment contract date.
  4. Once you agree to move ahead with the installation of your turbine by RSI Wind, your site assessment fee will be applied to the down payment of your project.
  5. Site Assessments are a required way of gathering information and data, and getting paperwork completed with local governing bodies; all without agreeing to the final phase of the project.

The next step - It is important that the Site Assessment be scheduled as soon as possible so that the site evaluation can be completed. RSI Representative will arrange this for you, based on the availability of our Site Assessor and your schedule.

RSI’s site assessment “pre-build”, for projects includes:

  • Our Site Assessor will conduct a personal visit to your property to meet with you and discuss your project, and help you choose the best location for your wind turbine(s).
  • The RSI Site Assessor determines the most ideal position for the tower, based on the topography of your site.
  • RSI will contact your local Zoning Board officials and process paperwork to meet local regulations and compliances.
  • RSI will file & pay for all of the necessary building permits and work orders.
  • RSI will check with your local utility about the proposed project and complete questionnaires and filings that they may require.
  • RSI will file the proper forms for the interconnect agreement with the grid utility. Planet
  • The RSI Site Assessor will contact your States “Before you dig Hotline” so we will know where and how deep to dig safely.
  • The RSI Site Assessor will provide Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for your bank loan officer or finance company, so that there is a complete understanding of how this purchase will benefit you and pervade information to the USDA for grant or loans.
  • Our inspection will give you 100% confidence that the job can be completed as we have quoted it, and that there will be no surprises or complications.
  • When there is a Board of Directors, Church Council, School or City Board, involved in the installation process, it is absolutely imperative that we provide complete information for your project prior to the meetings.
  • Once you decide to complete the purchase of your full project, your site assessment fee will be deducted from the final contract. The deposit will be applied to your down payment and we will schedule the actual installation date.

It’s easy, because we do the work!

The most important step in the development of a potential wind site is the collection of accurate and verifiable wind speed and direction data. Wind site assessment services can help save you money. The selection of a wind turbine site is crucial to the profitability of your wind project. The towers are equipped with sensors and data loggers to collect wind data at various heights to ensure suitable wind speeds for wind energy projects.

Our wind resource assessment services include:
• Assessment of your site (monthly reports)
• MET Tower Installation & Monitoring
• SODAR Installation & Monitoring
• Data Collection and meteorologist Data Analysis
• Project Management

RSI Wind Specialists has Tower Technicians that have completed ComTrain LLC’s requirements for certification in large Tower Climbing Safety & Rescue Training.  We have successfully completed many jobs on towers up to 1500 feet.  RSI does joint OSHA safety training with ComTrain, with RSI providing the 10HR OSHA training.

Met-Towers for Larger Wind Projects

RSI has towers for use RSI has towers for use meteorological wind survey units.  The met-tower is a temporary structure that is secured with most of the time with guy wires (cables) used to verify a property's potential.  Sensors will be mounted to the tower as needed.   Wind speed is one of the most important factors to consider when deciding to install a wind turbine.  Other variables like wind direction, wind shear must be considered as to where to install and are also measured with an on-site meteorological met-tower.

RSI performed it's first wind studies back in the late 1990’s!
